Life Story of John Alderson Radge

Flight Lieutenant John Alderson Radge RAAF

1939 – 7 October 2017
Aged 78 years

It is with the deepest regret that we advise the passing of our good friend and colleague, John Alderson Radge, former Flight Lieutenant (RAAF) on 7th October 2017.

John began flying on Chipmunks in WA at 17 and obtained his Private Pilots Licence at 18. At 19 he joined the RAAF initially undertaking No 35 Pilot Training Course in 1959/60.

John’s service included flying Sabres 76 Squadron at Williamtown and tours in Malaya and Thailand with 3 Squadron.

He met and married his wife Bev at Penang. On return to Australia, he spent three years flying Canberras and DC3s at the Air Trials Unit in SA.

Upon discharge in 1967 John joined Qantas as a S/O on Electras then to the B707 as a S/O followed by promotion to F/O. His next move was to the classic B747 as F/O and subsequently to commands on the classic and the B747-400.

He retired in April 1999 on his 60th birthday. Bev’s death in 2005 was an untimely blow from which he never fully recovered and, after a long illness, he passed away on the 7th October.
